K Stone Quartz Countertops: What are the different Quartz Grades?

03/09/2023

When shopping for a countertop material, it is easy to fall in love with K stone quartz countertops compared to other material options. Quartz is not only beautiful but also stands the test of time. But before settling for any, it is essential to first understand the different grades of quartz. The grade level is often determined by the manufacturing process. Below are the different grades of quartz.

First Choice

This is the best quartz grade, often made from the most premium quartz. Quartz material in this category has minimum veins and has the richest colours. They are also very smooth and feel almost similar to marble. The material is flawless and has a unique sparkle to it. While it will be a huge investment upfront, the durability makes up for the expensive price.

Commercial Grade

Also known as the standard grade, this is the most common on K-stone quartz countertops. It offers the same durability level as the first choice but has a minimal colour selection and a little less sparkle. Thanks to its durability, it is commonly used in high-traffic areas such as restaurants and hotels. Commercial-grade quartz is less expensive than the first choice but has the same durability.

Second choice

This is an entry-level quartz grade. While it is the least expensive option, it still offers good enough durability and is comparable to other natural stones. The only downside to selecting this grade of K stone quartz countertop is that you will not have the same colour or high-end finish as you would with commercial grade or first choice. This is the material grade to consider if you have a project such as an investment property, a starter home, or a cottage.

Note the lower the K quartz countertops grade, the lower the heat resistance. However, regardless of the grade, observe caution when placing hot pots on quartz countertops and use a hot pad protection or a trivet. The more you pay for your quartz countertop, the better the quality.
